Pinja is planning to reshape its business structure and expand the use of AI in software development

Pinja is planning to separate its product, mobility and inspection and services businesses into separately managed companies and change its software development practices. The goal is to serve customers better and create stronger conditions for growth. As part of the planned changes, Pinja will begin change negotiations, the statutory employee consultation process in Finland, covering all Pinja Digital employees on 27 October 2026.

The business environment in industry and customers’ needs are changing rapidly. At the same time, AI is changing how software is developed.

We want to help our customers improve their operations and become more competitive. We have strong expertise and decades of experience working closely with our customers and understanding their daily operations. If we combine these strengths with the opportunities AI offers and the courage to change how we work, we can better meet our customers’ changing needs. That is why now is the right time to build Pinja’s future, says Antti Miettunen, CEO of Pinja.

A clearer focus on different customer needs

Following the planned changes, the companies would each have their own management team, goals and operating model. The businesses serve different customer needs, and their pace of development and conditions for growth differ. With the planned separation, the businesses can focus more closely on their own customers and develop their operations around those customers’ needs.

Making AI a bigger part of software development

In software development, the planned reform would affect working practices and how work is organised, so that AI can be used more widely. According to the plan, a growing share of development work will be done by experts working together with AI.

The goal is to solve customers’ problems faster, deliver requested features more flexibly and develop higher-quality solutions.

The planned changes will also affect employees

The planned measures will affect the organisation, tasks and employment. The change negotiations cover all employees of Pinja Digital Oy, approximately 440 people, and are expected to continue until 18 November 2026.

According to a preliminary estimate, the planned measures could lead to the termination of up to 60 employment contracts and changes to employees’ tasks and roles. The exact number of any terminations will become clearer during the negotiations.

We understand that the changes raise concerns and questions among our employees about their future. It is important to us that employees have the opportunity to share their views and discuss the plans and their impact before decisions affecting employees are made, Miettunen says.

Customer work will continue as normal during the planned changes. Pinja will continue to fulfil agreed deliveries and maintain agreed service levels as before.
