Urjalan Makeistukku is Finland's largest online candy store, founded in 1991 with a mission to provide sweets to everyone at wholesale prices. Today, more than half of the company's turnover comes from online sales. In addition to sweets, the online store offers spices, natural products, sports nutrition, and superfoods.

Rapid growth required a platform that could scale with the business
When Urjalan Makeistukku opened its eCommerce operation in 2013, the company began experiencing exponential growth. As order volumes multiplied, the existing systems struggled to keep pace.
The old eCommerce platform and ERP were reaching the end of their useful life and could no longer support the company's development needs. Delivery capacity reached its limits, and more efficiency was needed across order processing and inventory management.
To sustain growth and maintain their reputation for fast deliveries at wholesale prices, Urjalan Makeistukku needed to modernise the eCommerce platform and find a solution that would enable smoother management of the entire supply chain — from orders to inventory.
A scalable Digital Commerce platform built for growth
Cooperation with Pinja began in 2017, when Urjalan Makeistukku selected a Digital Commerce solution designed for the needs of retail and wholesale businesses. Beyond technology, choosing the right partner was critical: reliability, long-term cooperation, and good working chemistry were key selection criteria.
The new setup increased automation across the supply chain, allowing deliveries to be handled more efficiently even as order volumes grew. Systems were designed to support future growth from the outset, ensuring that new markets, products, and sales channels could be added without major rework.
The flexibility of the platform has enabled international expansion, including the launch of a Swedish online store (godis247.se) in 2020 and a Europe-wide store (candycaesar.com) in 2025.
A modern headless Digital Commerce store launched in 2025
Rapid eCommerce growth eventually created the need for an even faster and more modern online store. In 2025, Urjalan Makeistukku launched a new headless Digital Commerce store built on Pinja’s Digital Commerce solution.
The headless architecture improves performance, flexibility, and scalability, while enabling faster development of customer-facing experiences. The new store also integrates Klevu, which provides AI-based product recommendations and enhances product discovery and user experience.
This modern setup ensures that Urjalan Makeistukku’s eCommerce can continue to grow without technical bottlenecks — supporting both domestic and international customers.
Centralised product information management with Akeneo PIM
With business growth and increasing product volumes, Urjalan Makeistukku needed centralised, fast product information management. Managing over 2,000 products across 70+ categories and multiple online stores required a more efficient approach than traditional methods.

Language translations can be managed faster, and product data flows consistently across all markets — whether selling to Finland, Sweden, or the broader European market.
