Sandvik Mining and Construction’s plant in Turku manufactures loading and hauling machinery. The plant employs around 500 people, who cover all business areas from product development to sales and manufacturing.
The plant’s production plans were entered into Pinja’s PES system. The PES system takes care of the coarser volume scheduling as well as the fine-tuned scheduling.
For the purposes of partner network management, the plant was equipped with the Partnerportal programme included in the PES system, through which the production plans are available also to the subcontractors.
The plant had challenges in production monitoring and the flow of information; the production controller had to find out directly from production how the work was proceeding, and then adapt the production plan accordingly. There was a lot of manual work involved, and not enough information of the problem areas available.
The plant’s production plans were entered into Pinja’s PES system. The PES system takes care of the coarser volume scheduling as well as the fine-tuned scheduling. Moreover, the monitoring of material deficiencies is also carried out in the system. “Thanks to PES, transparency has improved significantly throughout the organisation. We have achieved benefits in terms of capacity and resources – the improvements have been significant in these areas. In addition, we can now pride ourselves with better security of supply and shorter lead times.” Eero Plathin, Operations Support Manager, Sandvik Mining and Construction, Turku
