ERP system for wood procurement, harvesting and logistics
ERP system for wood procurement, harvesting and logistics
Forest by Pinja enables fully electronic timber trade, real-time harvesting and transport logistics, and real-time monitoring of costs, volumes and yields of the delivered timber.
Developed to manage wood procurement, harvesting and logistics, the modular ERP system offers many functions that facilitate everyday routines and includes both maps and tracking of origin of the wood. Documents related to wood procurement are easily generated and mandatory official documents, such as the forest use declaration, can be handled electronically, directly from the system. The required documents can be printed directly from the system in, for example, Finnish, Swedish or English.

For timber trade, the harvesting area (stand) is retrieved from the Metsään.fi service, and offers can be converted into contracts by a click of a button. Forest by Pinja enables different types of trades, customer-specific price lists and felling, real-time monitoring and reporting (also for stocks) and much more.
Planning the felling is facilitated by versatile map functions. In addition to basic maps, the maps show, for example, up-to-date property boundaries and aerial images of the area. For example, you can add storage locations, driving directions and various items that require attention to the map. Updates to the map are also visible on mobile devices.
Once the timber has been traded and the felling plan has been created on the map, the stand data and other harvesting and cutting instructions based on GPS location data are transferred directly to the harvester’s mobile device along with the control data.
Versatile map functionalities integrated into the National Land Survey’s systems make wood procurement, logistics planning and timber transportation easy, fast and accurate!
In addition to undersized trunks, energy wood include tops, branches and poor-quality trunks. Part of the top mass can be left in the forest as a nutrient, but from the point of view of efficient forest management, it also makes sense to collect energy wood. The Forest by Pinja system provides tools for harvesting, chipping and transporting energy wood.
The electricity production subsidy will change from the beginning of 2019, when full production subsidy will require monitoring of the origin of wood in accordance with forest certification standards. The Forest by Pinja system also includes information on the origin and certification of wood, so it is also used successfully for the procurement of energy wood and deliveries to power plants.
Wood-based fuels are Finland’s most significant source of bioenergy. Their share in heat and electricity production is about 27%. Forest by Pinja controls the entire production chain of energy wood from the stump to the heating plant, regardless of the unit – be it cubic meters, tons or kilowatt hours. Obviously, profitability can also be monitored in real time for an individual batch.
