A product development and testing phase related particularly to medical equipment, including clinical tests, lasting up to ten years before the actual commercialisation requires perseverance and solidity on all parties of the project as well as flexible partnership to adapt to varying demands.

Challenge: To find a competent partner to develop a riskless and reliable health technology

Reliable and riskless development of health technologies requires expertise in software development and ICT maintenance services. In medical device business it is important that all parties including subsuppliers know the requirements and international legislation concerning medical equipment.

Product development of healthcare equipment is strictly regulated by medical equipment directives, which also sets certain requirements for the software and maintenance services. A product development and testing phase related particularly to medical equipment, including clinical tests, lasting up to ten years before the actual commercialisation requires perseverance and solidity on all parties of the project as well as flexible partnership to adapt to varying demands.

Solution: With cooperation in product development toward international health technology market

Pinja’s expertise in medical software development became evident already during the consultative workshops arranged at the very beginning for analysing our software development needs to ensure that we were all on the same page in the project. Since there are not many Finnish companies providing software services for medical equipment that meet the requirements of the healthcare sector, it was easy to select Pinja.

Because of sudden changes in our previous software house, our product development partner Pinja joined the team when the challenging project was already in full swing. We have been satisfied with Pinja’s expertise, flexibility and customer orientation in a project with a demanding timeframe. From day one, Pinja has had clear ideas of how it should be organised although we have encountered many different changes of course.

End users of the software include not only doctors who monitor the bone lengthening treatment, but indirectly also patients who receive daily instructions via the application for using their home devices and implementing the treatment. It is self-evident that the bone implant, the home care device and the software must operate with 100% reliability in all conditions.

Although our future market is global, we respect the Finnish culture, direct discussion in the product development stage and dependable ways of operation. Pinja has been able to offer all these to our startup business that is currently making its way to the health technology sector: knowhow of software development for medical equipment, flexibility and human service based on customer needs. We greatly appreciate our product development partnership and I trust that our cooperation will also continue in the future with development of real-time digital and mobile services.
